No matter what, children are innocent. I just do not understand why they are separating them. Why? I still remember very vividly when my mom left my 1yr old sister and I was 3 to be with my stepsister in DR for her labor. This was 1980 and I remember how traumatic it was for me. I lived and breathe my mom, I could not be separated from my mom for anything. It was crazy. My kinder yr was another trauma. This breaks my heart knowing children are being separated. And yes it stays with you for life. Thank you, Oprah Winfrey for bringing more attention to this issue. We need powerful people like yourself taking action right now. This is a horrible moment in history and I feel powerless to create justice. I know we all need to do everything we can so I continue to call my legislators and will hit the Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees trick or treat shirt this weekend, but we need to do more. We need all leaders to apply pressure. Oprah Winfrey, I am Canadian and the mother of a small child. As a mother, I can’t even begin to fathom the fear and suffering of these children and their parents. My daughter is only 6, but I try to teach her how to own her power. I talk to her about our “responsibility”. When we see someone that needs help or a situation where we can make a difference, I ask her to think about her “response” in light of her “abilities”. We watched A Wrinkle in Time the other day - one of the many tools you have given us to help us raise both ourselves and our “little warriors”. I am raising her to fight for what she believes in and to defend those who can’t defend themselves.
