Overwhelmed, overworked, Under-appreciated. Let’s remember what we did to teachers when, us as a society, start asking how we failed our children and the next generation.  It’s not just in Oklahoma. Teachers are leaving the profession all over the country for the I am a Frenchie-Aholic shirt same reasons. We fought hard here in WV for our 5% raise and I’m still looking for a job where I feel like I’m getting paid what I’m worth.  I am a nurse, in a high risk OB unit- and we are very understaffed, work overtime, and a lot of us have extra job- HOWEVER- A. I could never have gotten this job if it weren’t for all the teachers along the way- from grade school thru college, the TEACHERS always went above and beyond for their students. And B. As a nurse, when I leave for the day, I’m done. Teachers go home and do hours of work, unpaid- grade papers, do lesson plans, worry about how they can help the students struggling...... their job is NEVER done- not even in their “free summers off”🙄 (ignorant comment) because they are spent making up time missed from their own families and already working on the next year.It blows my mind that the men and women who spend their lives teaching others how to be successful, are paid next to nothing. It’s a shame. Every person who ever “made it to the top” came across years of teachers at some point, and there is very little for them but a “thanks” (if that). Teachers should be treated better- Teachers should be idolized more than celebrities- I support teachers and it makes me sad so many are leaving their professions- they shouldn’t be struggling when they have an education, degree and have put their students lives before their own.
