I agree. I had a teacher in.high school that if it wasn't for her I probably wouldn't be here today. I had very bad depression n suicidal. If it wasn't for this teacher talking to me after school n even calling me at home don't know what would have happened. Thank you Kylee; you nailed it. I worked ten years at a children’s psychiatric hospital in Delaware; now I’ve completed 20 years as a public school teacher there as well. I Love working with the Don’t mess with me I have a crazy Aunt Shark who happened to cuss a lot shirt, but the personal sacrifice has been huge. I track my after school working (on school stuff )hours, and I easily make up the hours that a year round full time employee. My wife,also a teacher, and I have struggled with the price our family has had to pay. I am moving to another career so that I can be more of a (present) father and husband. I very much appreciate your understanding and respect for what we do. I would love to keep teaching(elementary special education), but I’m going for an in-out-done job. My pay is fine; but the crush of family time lost, record-keeping and instructional demands,fear of tone deaf or oblivious administration ,dealing with the social and behavioral problems that kids bring to school; it wears you down. Then you go home, hoping to have the physical and emotional strength to be good to your own family. It’s too much. I look back feeling good about the kids that I have helped(and who have helped me), but very sad about what I have missed with my own family. Perhaps things will eventually get better. I feel sorry for those who are choosing to enter the field today. It’s too much for me. I’m trading in my big boy job and shoes, in favor of a more laid back job and more flip-flops time. Feel free to share this with folks if you think it will help them understand. Also, many thanks to you for the job that you do.
