Why did he take his award surely refusing it on that principal would have been a statement on it's own. Let's see how many of these actors(Male and female) turn down the million dollar acting roles and insist it go to a person of colour shall we We are the viewers who either pay to go & see a movie, or watch movies at home & unless we actually have first hand experience of how the industry works, who are we to sit in judgement! Do you not think, for one moment, that Phoenix actually knows what he's talking about!? It's more about the issue of why certain people get uncomfortable when the word racism is mentioned, because the truth is, if you don't experience it, it's easier to pretend it doesn't exist, so it's actually understandable that certain people will get fed up of hearing about it, but as long as it's alive & affective, freedom of speech will be its outlet.
